Random Acts of Kindness Day!

Yesterday at Hofstra was Random Acts of Kindness Day, which was given its title by the Hofstra Newman Club! This day was just serving as a reminder to everyone at Hofstra that you can be the reason someone smiles that day, no matter how small the gesture! All day, Hofstra students were spotted are doing all kinds of good deeds such as buying coffee for the person in line behind them, giving up their parking space, sending roses to brighten someones day, and also by leaving many little notes of encouragement throughout heavily-traveled areas on campus!

Check out these pictures to see just what type of kindness our campus experienced!

Open House November 16th!

Once again, prospective students and their families had a great day at our Fall Open House! Everyone really got to know the Hofstra community and learned about all the opportunities that are available to Hofstra students!

When you walk into Student Center to check in, families were welcomed by the Hofstra Pep Band, Hofstra Pride Guides, current students, and of course our mascots Kate and Willy who were taking pictures with everyone! The first event of the day for these prospective students was a speech by President Rabinowitz, who never fails to inform everyone that Hofstra's swag is second to none! Right after the students and their families were welcomed by our President, everyone then had a chance to attend an information meeting with their intended major or department! Anything from Dance to Criminology sessions were offered, and Hofstra truly met the needs of it's visitors! After the information sessions, families could either take a campus tour, eat all the awesome food that was being offered in the Student Center, and or attend the Student Services Fair! This fair provides booths for all different aspects of Hofstra like Admissions, student run clubs, dining services, study abroad, and many more! Along with all these booths was performances by the Cheer and Dance teams, Melody Hall, our acapella groups, etc! This day was awesome for everyone, or so we have been told by people who attended! Whether this was due to the tours, free food, all the information about Hofstra or just Hofstra itself, we're so glad everyone came!

Here are a couple of pictures from the Open House!

First snowfall!

New York and Hofstra students woke up this morning to the first snowfall of the upcoming winter season! Although our campus just started to really look like fall, the colored leaves are now being covered by snow! However, I really do not think us Hofstra students really mind!
Look at these pictures students had put on Instagram of the snow on campus today!

From Hofstra to Radio City!

The Radio City Rockettes have become a vital part New York’s holiday season and the cultural landscape with their world known performance of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular! Being a part of this famous tradition is a dream come true for Hofstra dance alumna Tara Dunleavy-Tubridy! Graduated in '04, Tara has been a part of the Rockettes for the past seven years now! Although Tara has been involved with other shows such as national Broadway tours of Oklahoma! and Movin’ Out, she describes how being a Rockette is non comparable experience; "being on the Radio City stage with 6,000 people in each audience is indescribable." Tara talks about how "being a Hofstra student was one of the best experiences of my life," and how the Hofstra Dance Department faculty “were all so encouraging and supportive. You could talk to them about class or about the business. They were amazing.” Tara's advice for anyone in the future of performing arts is to "Be persistent. There are lots of Rockettes who had to audition a few times before getting hired. Whether you are hoping to work at Radio City or any other job, you have to have thick skin in this business. You’ll hear a lot of no’s before you get a yes."

Dean's Day!

Our annual Dean's Day is being held today at Hofstra! Dean's Day is an event for high school students and their families who luckily get today off from school due to Election Day! These students get to attend presentations from current students, administrators and faculty, while also getting to meet Admission Counselors along with Academic Deans! The day also includes campus tours and an Academic and Student Services Fair! Dean's Day is a great way to learn everything about Hofstra because it truly provides students and parents with a more intensive view of the University than the typical information session and tour!
Check out these pictures from today!
