From Hofstra to Radio City!

The Radio City Rockettes have become a vital part New York’s holiday season and the cultural landscape with their world known performance of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular! Being a part of this famous tradition is a dream come true for Hofstra dance alumna Tara Dunleavy-Tubridy! Graduated in '04, Tara has been a part of the Rockettes for the past seven years now! Although Tara has been involved with other shows such as national Broadway tours of Oklahoma! and Movin’ Out, she describes how being a Rockette is non comparable experience; "being on the Radio City stage with 6,000 people in each audience is indescribable." Tara talks about how "being a Hofstra student was one of the best experiences of my life," and how the Hofstra Dance Department faculty “were all so encouraging and supportive. You could talk to them about class or about the business. They were amazing.” Tara's advice for anyone in the future of performing arts is to "Be persistent. There are lots of Rockettes who had to audition a few times before getting hired. Whether you are hoping to work at Radio City or any other job, you have to have thick skin in this business. You’ll hear a lot of no’s before you get a yes."
