Spring time snow!

With tomorrow being the first day of April, I know I thought we were finally done with the snow! However, that is not the case on Long Island! Waking up to a snow filled campus is extremely discouraging, but the Hofstra campus always looks so beautiful, even when it is covered in snow! A couple of Hofstra students felt inspired this morning to Instagram the snow, even though most of us are just trying to pretend it isn't real!

Admitted Student Day 3/23!

Once again all the prospective students and their families and friends had an awesome time at Admitted Student Day here on campus! Admitted Student Day is always a great event to attend since it allows anyone thinking about attending Hofstra to get the full Hofstra experience! This amazing day is filled with activities such as meeting faculty members, touring the campus, attending a student services fair, a chance to hear from President Rabinowitz, a chance to meet other students who can be your future classmates, and much more! This day is always filled with smiles and fun, however, my favorite part of Admitted Student Day is when everyone first arrives. After they check in for the day and make their way towards the free refreshments, we offer them the opportunity to get their picture taken with our mascots, Kate and Willie! Whether the student and their families just smile and run away, or come and smile for a picture, the mascots always put a smile on their faces! Admitted Student Day is all about making students feel like a part of the Hofstra community and this is just one way we can do just that!

Hofstra Students Raise Over $36,000 to Fight Cancer!

Wow! We are so proud of our fellow students.

They raised over $36,000 to fight children's cancer through the St. Baldrick's Foundation!

This past Wednesday. many of our friends, professors and administrators shaved their head in solidarity with those battling cancer.

Provost Berliner, Professor Donahue, and first-year Honors College student Andrew Fierestein for going under the buzzer to support the fight against children's cancer. So far over $34,000 was raised by the Hofstra community! Go Pride!

European Odyssey!

The European Odyssey study abroad program is in full swing! This is a 10 week trip for any Global Studies majors or minors here at Hofstra. Each trip, Hofstra chooses 12 students to go and these lucky 12 and two Hofstra faculty members get to travel around Europe and surrounding regions in a minivan! This unique study abroad program gives students the opportunity to directly experience all different sorts of cultures and regions. Also during this trip, the students get the opportunity to interview politicians and policy makers, professors and students, and just the people who inhabit these countries such as France, Spain, Italy, Greece, the Czech Republic, Morocco, and more! Want to learn what exactly this trip is like? Well who better to learn from then the students experiencing it as we speak!

St. Baldrick's!

On Wednesday March 12th, Hofstra will be hosting it's six annual St. Baldrick's Fundraiser! This fundraiser is held in order for Hofstra to raise money for the St. Baldrick's Foundation which is dedicated to children's cancer research. So what exactly happens during a St. Baldrick's event you may be wondering? Well, it is pretty self explanatory. Students, faculty, and staff set goals to collect a certain amount of donations, and agree to have their heads publicly shaven if their goal is met! This year, the goal for donations set by Hofstra was $25,000 and this goal has already been surpassed and is at $26,077! Thank you to everyone who donated to this amazing cause!

Jail and Bail!

Every year at Hofstra, there is the annual Jail and Bail! This event is pretty much self explanatory, since it is students "arresting" their fellow roommates, best friends, classmates, etc. Then whoever gets "arrested," is taken to a jail cell setup in the Student Center and are held there until "bailed" out! The students inside the cell have to raise money to pay their bail which is set by a panel of judges (Hofstra staff), by asking friends, family, and even other students just walking by! However, the best part about this event is that all the money raised is for the Special Olympics! So, if you are on campus, go check out the student center and see if you know anyone in jail!

Recap of Admitted Student Day!

What a success! Yesterday's Admitted Student Day here at Hofstra was filled with new accepted students, excited families, and helpful Hofstra students, workers, and faculty! The events of the day varied from academic sessions, student services fair, a photo shoot with Kate and Willie, an ice cream social, campus tours, and much more! It was a great day for students to learn everything about Hofstra and really experience would life would be like here!
